About Tony Japour:
At the intersection of art and technology, Tony Japour’s resume is long and varied. As an infectious diseases physician-scientist in the 1980’s through 2002, he researched the HIV/AIDS virus at Boston’s Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts (’89-’96) and developed HIV/AIDS medications at Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Illinois (’96-’02).
In 2002, Anthony formed the AJ Japour Gallery, an internet-based business that deals privately in contemporary fine art. The secondary mission of the Gallery is to support public service organizations dedicated to the health, education and welfare of children. Tony is a private art dealer, an independent curator, art advisor and recently established Infinity 8 Art Management, a firm that offers curatorial and art advisory services to art investment vehicles.
Japour is a licensed as a physician in the State of Florida and is board certified in Internal Medicine. Presently, Japour has a medical consulting firm specializing in strategic planning, public health policy, education and research for preventive medicine emerging infectious diseases. He has consulted in the area of Avian Influenza (bird flu) in the cruise industry, HIV/AIDS drug development, assisted the Florida Department of Health in obtaining data on medication adherence among clients of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, and has served as an expert in several medical legal cases. Japour is also a Volunteer Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine where he volunteers time at the Miami Veteran’s Medical Center. During the past year, Japour served as the Infectious Disease Consultant for a State of Florida funded project awarded to the Jackson Health System entitled: Biological Response Toolkit for Florida Hospitals- development, production and training kit. This kit is a guide for Florida’s 293 hospitals so that they may effectively recognize and respond to an attack of bioterrorism in their local communities.
Tony has served on a many civic boards in Boston and Miami Beach currently serving on the Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council. He has received a number of awards including Scholar for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (1989-92), a Physician-Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (1992-1996), a President’s Award from Abbott Laboratories (2000), and in 2003 he was named by PEOPLE Magazine as one of its 25 Hottest Bachelors.
Tony Japour holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, MI (1981) and an M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, IL (1986).
