Michael Tilson Thomas hosts a special one-time-only event honoring Jean Sibelius, Finland’s legendary Romantic composer. The all-Sibelius performance will include his iconic symphonies, chamber music and other works inspired by his homeland.

“Sibelius is such an interesting composer because his music is written in many different scales of time. There are some parts of the music that are moving at an almost glacial pace or geological kind of speed. And there are other parts of the music that move in a very fluid way that suggests wind and water. Then there are still other parts of it that are moving in a very folkloric, perhaps song or dance-like way.”

Journey Concerts are flowing explorations of a composer or type of music, which also showcase the versatility of the New World Center’s performance hall. Using both its main stage and multiple smaller stages, they are continuous performances that transition from one stage to the next, enveloping the audience in the music. Journey Concerts have two intermissions and are approximately three hours in length.
