2023 HEAT Beach Sweep – Event Recap

The Miami HEAT hosted its eighth annual HEAT Beach Sweep, presented by Amerant Bank, at Oleta River State Park in  North Miami Beach. As part of NBA Green and in conjunction with One Tree Planted, the HEAT planted 30 native trees at Oleta River State Park’s Gilligan’s Trail, a popular bike and hiking trail that is now being restored due to invasive exotic trees and hazardous root rot. One Tree Planted is a global nonprofit on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. For more information please visit: https://onetreeplanted.org.

In addition, staff from Florida International University College of Arts, Sciences and Education lead groups of volunteers to test the water for microplastics in Biscayne Bay and record plant and animal observations to help monitor the movement and abundance of species, in response to climate change and other changes to our environment.

HEAT front office staff were joined by volunteers from Amerant Bank along with HEAT players Jamal Cain, Nikola Jović, Orlando Robinson and HEAT legend, Glen Rice.
