ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Roy McLendon
An Original Highwayman
In 2004, Roy McLendon was inducted along with 25 fellow artists known as “Highwaymen,” into the Florida Arts Council Hall of Fame, the highest cultural honor bestowed by the state. The Highwaymen paintings began in the late 50s when these self-taught artists took to the roads of East Coast Florida, selling their vivid landscapes door to door. Roy is the second Highwayman, known as the “story teller” of the group, his work is highly collectible. Today he runs a gallery in Fort Pierce with his son, artist Roy McLendon, Jr.
Fred Hunt
A Painter of Visual Seduction
Fred Hunt has worked as an artist for 60 years and is still going strong. In 2007, he was recognized as a “Miami Master” by the City of Miami. In 2004, he was voted “Best Local Artist” in Miami Beach. His work is exhibited nationally, and is in numerous private collections in Florida and the United States, including murals in the collection of the University of Miami and the Rosenthal Marine Center. Fred works daily in his Coconut Grove studio/gallery, and spends his summers as a resident artist in Woodstock, New York.
P. Cherry
An Oasis for the Soul
At 18, she studied at the Art Students League with Hans Hoffman, but it would not be until the age of 50, that P. Cherry would take the plunge. Today, she is in numerous collections here and abroad, and has been represented by galleries in South Florida and New York. Her work appeared in the TV series Miami Vice, and she has been a featured artist for Bloomingdales’ showrooms in New York.? Her work, an expression of joy and freedom, showers the viewer with a visual cascade of luscious color and layers of texture.
