When Miami Beach Went to War

During World War II, Miami Beach was transformed from a vibrant tourist destination into a bustling military training ground. Discover the surprising wartime role the city played with an off-site guided tour of Boot Camp in Paradise: World War II in Miami Beach, Galería Ocean Drive’s outdoor exhibition in Lummus Park. After the tour, return to The Wolfsonian to experience a library open house, exploring Judith Berson-Levison’s “Sand in Their Boots” archive of Miami Beach WWII memorabilia, and enjoy a screening of short films that reflect on the legacy of WWII (curated by AV Club).

Organized with the City of Miami Beach, Galería Ocean Drive, and Miami Dade-Public Library System’s Division of Special Collections & Archives. Galería Ocean Drive is curated by the Miami Beach Office of the Mayor and Commission.
