The Past, Present and Future of Thinking Machines – May 1

Thursday, May 1

Learn how AI can process language and information like a human — or even better.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly woven into the ways we communicate, work, and relate to the world, but what is AI? How do machines “learn” to think more like us, and are they really “thinking”? As the museum prepares to open AI: More Than Human, join Dr. Mark Finlayson, professor and researcher at Florida International University, on Thursday, May 1, for LIVE@Frost Science: The Past, Present and Future of Thinking Machines as he uncovers the potential and limitations of artificial intelligence.

Drawing from his work at FIU’s Cognition, Narrative, and Culture Laboratory, this talk explores AI’s origins, present and future, how machines learn from language, and what it means to teach machines to understand us.

Admission to LIVE@Frost Science: The Past, Present and Future of Thinking Machines is complimentary. Program will take place inside the Frost Planetarium. Refreshments and light snacks will be available for purchase prior to the event at Food@Science.
