The Musical Box to Recreate Genesis’ Landmark Rock Opera The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway at Hard Rock Live on May 2

The Musical Box, the only band in the world to be officially licensed by Peter Gabriel and Genesis to recreate Genesis’ iconic hits and stage shows, will present the epic saga The Lamb Lies Down on Broadwayat Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale, now.

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was released by Genesis as a concept double album in 1974. Based on a story by band member Peter Gabriel, the rock opera imaginatively relayed the trials and tribulations of Rael, a half Puerto Rican juvenile delinquent living in New York City, who is swept underground to face bizarre creatures and nightmarish dangers in order to rescue his brother, John. The individual songs also make satirical allusions to mythology, the sexual revolution, advertising and consumerism.

Upon its American debut, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway originally featured an imposing projection system with more than 1,000 slides, outrageous costumes and props and an arsenal of innovative visual effects and pyrotechnics.

In 2000, The Musical Box received exclusive licensing from Genesis and Peter Gabriel for the reproduction of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Genesis also supplied the original 1,120 slides used during the 1974 tour.

Later that year, under the musical direction of Sébastien Lamothe and the artistic direction of Serge Morissette, The Musical Box unveiled its fitting tribute to Genesis’ talented Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford. The group, comprised of Denis Gagné (lead vocal, flute, percussion), Sébastien Lamothe (bass, 6-string and 12-string guitars, backing vocals), Francois Gagnon (guitar), Michael Cloutier (keyboards) and Marc Laflamme (drums, percussion) painstakingly reproduced and recreated the music, magic and artistic genius of the show complete with era-appropriate instruments at its first performance in Montreal, Canada.

Since then, The Musical Box’s critically acclaimed concert has been produced in some of the most prestigious halls and theaters in the world including London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Paris’ Olympia. In 2005, Phil Collins joined the band on stage in Geneva.

Ultimately designed to give people an illusion of being at the actual Genesis show, the ambitious project showcases the timeless artistry of a band and album that is contemporary, yet still retains its cult-like following.

In 2008, Serge Morissette, The Musical Box’ artistic director, participated in the re-editing of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway recreating the original slide show sequence for Genesis’ DVD version of the album.
