Co-hosted by Students Offering Support (S.O.S.) and the Deering Estate at Cutler, the 4th annual Youth Arts Day & Music Fest is a community collaboration celebrating youth artists and creating awareness for the rich emerging resources Miami-Dade County has to offer. Youth Arts Day & Music Fest features month long visual and literary art exhibitions, as well as a day long series of youth performance art on Sunday, March 7th from 10 am to 5 pm. Youth visitors (Grades K-12) are given free admittance to the Estate; the cost for adults is $10. Other activities include: Eco-Programs from the Deering Estate’s “Living Classroom”, Face Painting, and an arts project. Founding members of the Living Artist Concert Series and Artists in Residence will act as mentors available for portfolios reviews, exhibits and performances.
A 5K Dash held on Saturday, March 6th – from the Estate, into the surrounding community, and back to the Estate. The registration cost for the 5K Dash is $10. To register, please visit www.sosmiami.org.
Proceeds from the 2010 Youth Arts Day & Music Fest will benefit the following organizations: Neat Stuff, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children’s Home Society of Florida, and the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
Students Offering Support, Inc.: Founded in 2008, Students Offering Support (S.O.S.) is a countywide, non-profit, youth community service organization. SOS’s mission is to introduce high school co-eds to the impact that they can have on their community as they themselves conduct the business each year of identifying community needs and creating a plan of fund raising and service that will assist in meeting those needs. Membership in SOS is an honor and members are selected based on their character, leadership and interest in community involvement. Our goal is to fulfill our mission while providing an enjoyable and fun means of uniting our community youth.
The Deering Estate at Cutler, a 444 acre natural and archaeological preserve and historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. The Estate is growing in importance as a creative studio for local artists and art through its Artist in Residence & Art on Loan Programs.
