In honor of Red Cross Month, buildings across South Florida, including several in downtown Miami, Hollywood, Port St. Lucie and Fort Myers lit up in hues of vibrant red in support of the American Red Cross this March. The South Florida Region coordinated the initiative with participating buildings including the Royal Caribbean Terminal, Norwegian Terminal, Brickell World Plaza, Kaseya Center, Port of Miami, One Biscayne Tower, Miami Tower, Perez Art Museum Miami, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Port St. Lucie City Hall and NeoGenomics Laboratories. By lighting up in red, these buildings pay tribute to the Red Cross and show support of its mission in the community.
“We are grateful to have such tremendous support during Red Cross Month from our community,” said Krista Coletti, Regional Executive of the South Florida Region. “All month long we’ve been celebrating the work of our dedicated volunteers as we serve our lifesaving mission.”
During Red Cross Month, volunteers are recognized and honored for providing hope and urgent relief to families when help can’t wait during emergencies. They are the true heroes of the Red Cross, comprising 90 percent of the workforce.
More than 80 years ago, March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to raise awareness of the organization and its humanitarian mission. Today, we continue to celebrate this month by asking everyone to be there for our communities when they need us most.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED Red Cross volunteers stand by thousands of families every year, providing resources and emotional support to help people recover after disasters both big and small. This year our volunteers have provided families with the support they need during local emergencies like home fires. Visit redcross.org/
