Opening this Saturday at the Adrienne Arsht Center, “Silent Night”—composed by Kevin Puts with a libretto by Mark Campbell—brings to life the powerful 1914 Christmas Truce, when soldiers from both sides of World War I temporarily laid down their weapons and connected through song.

The costumes are authentic recreations of uniforms soldiers from each country would have worn in World War I.

This modern-day opera highlights universal themes of empathy, connection, and hope amidst darkness. As the world commemorates Veterans Day, the production serves as a poignant reminder of humanity’s capacity for peace and understanding.

The set designer created a 3-tiered set to portray the World War I trenches of all 3 countries- France, Britain, and Germany.
