A piece 15 years in the making…

In 1872, a young Dvořák composed his Piano Quintet No. 1. Feeling dissatisfied with his work, Dvořák destroyed the original manuscript of the piece, leaving only a single copy with music critic Ludevít Procházka.

Fourteen years later, Dvořák requested the copy from Procházka, who had thankfully held onto it for all those years. Dvořák revisited and refined the piece, offering a glimpse of the composer’s early brilliance that would only be published after his death.
