RM Sotheby’s has announced its premier offering for the 2026 Miami sale during ModaMiami: a rare 1967 Ford GT40 Mk I road car, chassis P/1058, estimated to fetch between $6.5 million and $8 million. This iconic vehicle is one of only 31 road-specified GT40 Mk I models ever produced, offering a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Built to support homologation for racing, the GT40 Mk I shares its lineage with the legendary Le Mans-winning program that secured four consecutive overall victories from 1966 to 1969. While primarily designed for competition, this particular model was modified minimally for street use, preserving its authenticity and rarity.
Chassis P/1058 is distinguished not only by its racing pedigree but also by its documented provenance, which includes participation in Ford’s Promotion and Disposal Program—a campaign where select GT40s toured dealerships before being sold. Restored in period-correct Carmen Red with a black interior, it has been carefully maintained and driven, including test miles at Circuit of the Americas, earning concours accolades.
“This GT40 is exceptional in every sense,” said RM Sotheby’s President Gord Duff. “It’s a highly desirable, authentic piece of racing history, meticulously restored and preserved. Bringing such a significant car to Miami marks a historic moment for collectors.”
The vehicle’s history is further enriched by its presentation at the Tasca Ford dealership in Massachusetts during a Mustang anniversary event in 1967, aligning with the GT40’s cultural impact of the era.
With a storied background, limited production, and a highly documented history, the 1967 Ford GT40 Mk I is poised to be a centerpiece at the auction, offering investors and enthusiasts a chance to own a true piece of motorsport history.
