The Miami Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to launch its fall season with some of the year’s most acclaimed and highly anticipated films—works destined to appear on year-end “Best Of” lists and awards stages. We’re kicking off in grand style with a Members-Only Exclusive Event featuring the Cannes Film Festival Official Selection Eleanor the Great, the dazzling directorial debut of Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson, and starring Academy Award nominee June Squibb in what critics are calling one of the most powerful performances of her career, on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:30pm at AMC Aventura.
Both thoughtful and hilarious, Squibb delivers a tour-de-force as Eleanor, a sharp-tongued, fiercely independent Floridian who, after losing her lifelong best friend and roommate, uproots her life to move to New York City with her daughter and grandson. When Eleanor stumbles into a Holocaust survivors’ support group at the Manhattan JCC, she begins recounting a dramatic tale of survival—only it isn’t hers, but her late friend’s. Squibb’s performance is a revelation—vibrant, layered, and profoundly human—showing that it’s never too late to stir up a little trouble or discover a new chapter in life.
This remarkable film, both funny and deeply moving, is only the beginning of a season filled with some of the year’s most anticipated and acclaimed works. |
