The Opera Theatre Ensemble of New World School of the Arts will present an evening filled with the rich traditions of Zarzuela and Spanish opera, featuring scenes from renowned composers like Torroba, Roig, Luna, Catán, and more. “As the director and curator of this event, the primary goal is to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and to celebrate and honor Hispanic and Latin culture through the powerful mediums of Zarzuela and Spanish opera,” explained NWSA voice and opera faculty Dr. Megan Barrera. “By performing in Little Havana, at the heart of Miami’s vibrant Latin community, we aim to create a meaningful connection between our students and their cultural roots. Additionally, the concert serves as an opportunity for the students to give back to the community, enriching their artistic growth by immersing themselves in the cultural traditions of Hispanic music. This experience encourages them to become more well-rounded artists, learning that respect and understanding of diverse traditions are vital to their development and future success. Ultimately, the goal is to inspire both the performers and the audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the heritage that shapes so much of the musical world.”
