Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade Commissioners, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom, and local, state, and federal officials unveiled plans for a significant expansion at Miami International Airport’s Concourse D, set to transform the hub by 2030.

The D60 expansion will add 17 new aircraft gates, modern passenger boarding areas, expanded dining and shopping options, and an upgraded baggage handling system. Scheduled to break ground in 2027, the $1 billion, three-level project will revamp the current gate D60, which now serves regional jets, into a contemporary contact gate terminal for larger regional and narrow-body aircraft, each with spacious passenger lounges. The new gates will also connect directly to Concourse D’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities for international arrivals.

This project is part of Miami Airport’s broader $9 billion M.I.A. Plan, which includes over 200 initiatives. Other major projects include the recent opening of the Ibis Garage, extensive modernization of elevators and walkways, renovation of 196 public restrooms, Concourse K expansion slated for 2029, and the Central Terminal redevelopment scheduled to complete by 2031.

In alignment with sustainability goals, the D60 expansion will incorporate LEED Silver and Envision Verified features, earning top certifications for environmentally resilient structures.

As one of the fastest-growing hubs globally, Miami International Airport continues its evolution into a future-ready gateway, designed to serve millions of visitors for decades ahead while elevating the passenger experience from drop-off to departure.
