Miami Design District Presents District Reads

October 5th, 11th and 25th

The Miami Design District is working alongside Miami Book Fair and Istituto Marangoni to present District Reads: A series of book presentations by brilliant and distinguished women authors Ruby Warrington, Rosa Lowinger, and Carol Jazzar. 


Taking place on October 5th, 11th and 25th, the presentations will all take place at Istituto Marangoni and are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6PM and each evening concludes with a rooftop reception and book signing. 


Thursday, October 5 – District Reads with Ruby Warrington 

Join MDD in celebrating Ruby Warrington’s latest masterpiece, “Women Without Kids: The Revolutionary Rise of an Unsung Sisterhood”. Witness an enchanting conversation between Ruby and Nora Walsh followed by a rooftop reception. 


ABOUT RUBY: Ruby is a British-born author, editor, and podcaster. Recognized as a true thought leader, Ruby has the unique ability to identify issues that are destined to become part of the cultural narrative. Her books include: Material Girl, Mystical World; Sober Curious; The Sober Curious Reset, and Women Without Kids, and her work has been featured by countless media outlets globally, including the New York Times, The Guardian, and Good Morning America. She lives in Brooklyn.

Wednesday, October 11th – District Reads With Rosa Lowinger

Immerse yourself in the pages of Rosa Lowinger’s “Dwell Time: A Memoir of Art, Exile, and Repair”, the first memoir by a working conservator of art and historic buildings. Be part of an intimate conversation between Rosa and renowned artist Nereida Garcia-Ferraz. Following the discussion, experience a book signing event and rooftop soirée.


ABOUT ROSA: Rosa is a Cuban-born, Miami-raised art conservator specializing in sculpture and architecture. She is the Founder and Co-Chief conservator of RLA Conservation of Art + Architecture, a firm with offices in Miami and L.A. A graduate of NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts Conservation Program, and a Fellow of American Institute for Conservation and the Association for Preservation Technology, Rosa was the 2008-09 Rome Prize Fellow in Conservation at the American Academy in Rome, where she researched the history of vandalism and iconoclasm. She has curated the exhibitions “Concrete Paradise: Miami Marine Stadium at the Coral Gables Museum” and “Promising Paradise: Cuban Allure, American Seduction” at the Wolfsonian. Her books include Tropicana Nights: The Life and Times of the Legendary Cuban Nightclub, and Dwell Time: A Memoir of Art, Exile and Repair.

Wednesday, October 25h – District Reads With Carol Jazzar

Embark on a soul-enriching voyage with Carol Jazzar, the visionary behind “All Whole of Me: Healing Through Art, The Art of Deconstructing and Recreating Oneself”. Engage in a captivating conversation between Carol and Stephanie Seidel, followed by a book signing and rooftop celebration.


ABOUT CAROL: Carol is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in El Portal, Florida. Her work is centered on Nature, be it her own, or that of Mother Nature. To realize her artist goals, she sustains two practices: one in the studio, which revolves around collages, drawings and writing; the other outdoors, using photography and site-specific projects. Between 2007 and 2014, she ran a contemporary art gallery out of the garage on her property in Miami’s El Portal neighborhood, where she showed artists such as Jen Stark, Farley Aguilar, David Rohn, Shoshanna Weinberger and Ronny Quevedo, among others. Her previous creative incarnation was as a clothing designer under the label Chains Addiction. Her work is part of the collections of the Miami-Dade Public Library, Miami International Airport, Related Group, Girl’s Club and other private collections.
