Crespo, who was named “Elvis” after Elvis Presley, is an American-born Puerto Rican Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning singer.
He first gained fame in the mid-1990’s when he joined Grupo Mania in Puerto Rico. Eventually, he decided to try to go solo in 1998 and put out his debut album “Suavemente,” which was a hit in both Latin America and the U.S. The single “Suavemente” helped him earn the Best Male Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year from Billboard Magazine.
In 1999, he released his sophomore album, Pintame, which earned him a Grammy and countless other awards. His sixth album, Saborealo, released in 2004, spawned the hit single “Hola Enamorada,” which debuted at the top of the Billboard Latin charts and earned him a Latin Grammy.
In 2008, he became the first Latin artist to record a live album from Las Vegas, Elvis Crespo Live From Las Vegas. It reached No. 5 among Latin Tropical albums.
His most recent album, 2012’s Los Monsters, rose to No. 3 on the Latin Tropical Charts. It produced the No. 1 singles “Yo No Soy Un Monstruo” and “Vallenato En Karaoke,” while earning Crespo his fourth Merengue Artist of the Year award.
