Local real estate broker helps charity with clothing sale
Clothes 4 Hope raised more than $1,500 for Kids Hope United
Sharon Dresser, broker associate for High Street Retail USA, the exclusive leasing agent for the The Shops at Midtown Miami, acquired a large collection of women’s clothing in the fall of 2009.
“I knew immediately that I wanted to use this opportunity to give back to our community by holding a clothing sale with the money raised going to a local charity,” said Dresser. “It was a true community effort with Developers Diversified Realty and The Shops at Midtown Miami agreeing to host the event and Perry Ellis International chipping in to lend us clothing racks for the sale.”
The clothing was featured during two charity sales with items that usually retail for up to $200 each, on sale for $10 and $20 during the event, Clothes 4 Hope. The Clothes 4 Hope sales took place in November and again in December at a three-day sale during Art Basel Miami. Proceeds of the two events, totaling more than $1,500, benefited Kids Hope United, a private, nonprofit human service organization dedicated to protecting children and strengthening families.
“When Sharon contacted me with her idea for the Clothes 4 Hope event, I was beyond ecstatic,” said Judith Pasternac, development director for Kids Hope United. “During the holiday time especially, donations of all kinds are critical for us to serve the at-risk families in our care.”
Developers Diversified Realty, the owners of The Shops at Midtown Miami, donated the space where the sample sale was held. Perry Ellis International lent the use of rolling racks to display the clothing. Volunteers from both Developers Diversified Realty and High Street Retail USA staffed the charity events.
“Customers found it very rewarding to shop for such a worthy cause,” said Dresser.
The Shops at Midtown Miami is located on the corner of NE 36th Street and North Miami Avenue, just north of downtown Miami and is open daily.
