LINCOLN ROAD BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ANNOUNCES 2026 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR TEMPORARY PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION

The submission deadline is June 8, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Full details and application are available HERE.

The Art on Lincoln Program Expands Following Its Successful Inaugural Artist Call, Inviting Professional Artists to Submit Proposals to Exhibit Public Artwork Along Miami Beach’s Iconic Promenade

The Lincoln Road Business Improvement District (LRBID) is excited to announce the launch of its 2026 Request for Proposals (RFP) for temporary public art installations as part of Art on Lincoln: Sculpture, Installations and More. Following the success of last year’s inaugural Call to Artists program, the initiative now expands into a formal RFP process, inviting artists and artist teams to submit both their professional qualifications and a specific proposed artwork—either an existing piece or a newly conceived concept—for installation on Lincoln Road, one of South Florida’s most prominent pedestrian promenades that welcomes more than 10.8 million visitors annually.

Selected artwork will be supported by a project budget of up to $75,000, and both the artist and installation will be featured across LRBID marketing channels, including its website, social media, public relations campaigns and on-site signage, offering exceptional visibility and exposure.

“One of the most rewarding parts of our public art program has been connecting directly with artists and introducing them to Lincoln Road as a place where their work can be experienced by a truly diverse, international audience,” said Anabel Llopis, Executive Director of the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District. “Through this RFP, we’re looking forward to welcoming new ideas and perspectives that reflect the creativity and cultural energy that define both the artists and the district itself.”

Last year’s inaugural open call generated significant global interest, attracting over 75 submissions from artists around the world. The winning proposal, “La Herencia Viva” by Miami-based Colombian artist Oscar Esteban Martinez, was unveiled during Miami Art Week 2025 and will remain on view through June 2026. Featuring a striking fragmented human face composed of puzzle-like segments and mirrored acrylic panels, the sculpture has been widely praised for its powerful commentary on identity, community and cultural coexistence—earning local and national media attention and drawing visitors to the installation site.

“We were blown away by the quality, thoughtfulness and creativity of the submissions we received last year,” said Lyle Stern, president of the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District. “Oscar Esteban Martinez’s ‘La Herencia Viva’ is a testament to the power of public art to tell meaningful stories and connect people across cultures. We are thrilled to expand our public art program and can’t wait to see what new perspectives emerge in 2026.”

Scope of Work

Artists are encouraged to propose either new or existing sculptural works, immersive installations, interactive pieces or mixed-media artworks suitable for temporary outdoor exhibition along Lincoln Road. Proposed installations should enhance the public realm, reflect the energy, diversity and cultural richness of Lincoln Road and engage a broad, family-friendly audience. The selected artist will also be responsible for providing a maintenance plan for the duration of the installation, which will be on display from November 2026 through May 2027.

How to Apply

Submissions are accepted from local, national and international artists, and collaborative proposals are permitted, though teams must designate a lead artist or representative. Full submission guidelines and application details are available at lincolnroad.com/arts-culture/request-for-proposal/. The deadline for submissions is June 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Selection Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of LRBID executive board members, who will evaluate proposals based on professional qualifications, creativity, feasibility, artistic merit and alignment with Lincoln Road’s cultural mission. The LRBID reserves the right to select one winning proposal or decline to award the project if submissions do not meet program standards.
