Austin Lee explores human emotion and psychology through a blend of digital and traditional art techniques, creating vibrant paintings, sculptures, and videos. In this exhibition, he delves into the hyperreality of the digital age, using 3-D and virtual reality software to develop pieces that are then painted on canvas or fabricated in materials like resin and bronze. Inspired by a visit to Italy’s Giotto Chapel and the allegorical themes of Prudentius’s Psychomachia, Lee’s works reflect on virtues, vices, and raw emotions. Notable pieces include Lion with Blue Eyes (2024), evoking strength, and In Bed (2024), capturing vulnerability. The central piece, Blue Fountain (2022-2024), was previously showcased at the Lotte Museum of Art in Seoul. A mezzanine series of new video works deepens the exhibition’s exploration of surveillance and self-reflection.
