Japanese Textile Art Reimagined: HIROMI ASAI Debuts Modern Kimono-Inspired Menswear at Miami Art Week 2025

At Miami Art Week 2025, HIROMI ASAI transforms Japan’s rich kimono textile heritage into cutting-edge menswear, blending craft, culture, and contemporary design. Instead of focusing on traditional kimono shapes, the brand emphasizes the artistry of the textiles themselves—crafted with time-honored techniques by master kimono artisans—and reinterprets them through tailored, sculptural pieces that move naturally on the body.

Showcased during Art Basel Miami Beach, the collection features about 20 bold looks, including mythic motifs inspired by Japanese deities Raijin and Fujin, dragon designs, mist-shrouded overalls, and a striking coat adorned with Rinpa’s iconic red and white plum blossoms—recognized internationally through Vogue. This collection asserts that kimono textiles are not just historical artifacts but vibrant textiles of modern artistic expression.

Designer Hiromi Asai explains, “Kimono textiles are works of art in themselves. Our role is to bring that artistry into the present—shaping it through line, balance, and proportion so menswear becomes a new site for artistic exploration.”

The Miami show, powered by Art Hearts Fashion at 555 Studios Wynwood, marks HIROMI ASAI’s ongoing commitment to elevating traditional Japanese textiles into a global fashion conversation, bridging heritage with modern sophistication.
