Tucked behind a vintage cigarette machine, within the vibrant energy of Wynwood’s Niño Gordo, you’ll find Dekotora—a transportive Japanese dining experience inspired by Japan’s extravagant “decorated trucks.” Inside, you’ll encounter moving wall projections, truck-style seating, and a laid-back atmosphere that offers an unexpected twist on fine dining. But it’s more than just aesthetics—it’s a fresh addition to Miami’s sushi scene.
The menu is led by Chef Carlos García (formerly of Sushi by Scratch), a young, focused talent known for his ingredient-driven, no-frills approach that challenges Miami’s typical truffle roll expectations. Instead, he offers a minimalist, product-forward selection: simple yet flavorful dishes executed with precision, featuring fish imported from Japan, A5 Wagyu, and a rice recipe developed over four years. His style blends refined Japanese technique with creative flair.
The cocktail program is designed as a sensory show, with bold flavors and standout drinks like the Neon Skyline (shiso-infused Patrón and Mijenta Tequila) and Electric Midnight (Toki whisky, tamarind, curry, coconut, and lime). Expect high-end Japanese spirits, hand-carved ice, vibrant presentations, and cocktails that literally light up the bar.
Dekotora seats 12 guests per seating and is open Wednesday through Sunday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. The space is also available for private bookings.
