Parents/caregivers of boys are invited to attend Informed Families/The Florida Family Partnership’s FREE monthly Lunch & Learn workshop in May titled, “Oh Boy! Meeting Your Son’s Unique Needs.” The workshop, which will explore the topic of raising and teaching boys, is presented in an effort to help educate parents and members of the community.
During the workshop, guest speaker Holly Zwerling, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist, will identify stereotypes that hinder boys’ emotional, social and educational growth; identify unmet services for boys affecting their well-being; and empower parents of boys to raise them to be contributing members of society.
“Recognizing the individual boy’s needs, skills, strengths and temperaments early on will maximize his ability to learn, love, and develop healthy behaviors, both physically and emotionally,” said Zwerling.
The workshop will include breakout sessions exploring topics such as what it’s like for single fathers/mothers raising boys, what the ideal approach is to raising boys, and whether or not society is boy-friendly. A Q-and-A session will conclude the workshop.
An author and practicing Family Life Educator and therapist for nearly 35 years, Zwerling currently serves as a trainer for The Children’s Trust, where she speaks to groups on an array of parenting-related topics. She is also a consultant for Miami-Dade County Public Schools
