The sound of RAM is a unique mash-up of mizik rasin (Haitian roots) folkloric and hypnotic ceremonial rhythms, along with elements of Haitian kompa dance beats, funk and a dose of rock and roll. The band draws from a powerful rara horn section and percussion – backing up Morse and his wife, the entrancing singer Lunise, and the guitars.
The full 13-piece powerhouse touring band now tours the US more regularly, popping up in Haitian diaspora hotspots as well as major festivals; hip music clubs; even as featured members of Krewe du Kanaval in New Orleans with sometimes-collaborators Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire. They come to the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach during a period of celebration of gede, akin to a Haitian Day of the Dead, and are promising enough grooves to raise all our spirits.
Dance performance by Nancy St Leger Dance Ensemble and opening set by DJ Krazy Mix.
