GRAMMY Museum® Unveils RetroBlakesberg: The Music Never Stopped Exhibit Featuring Jay Blakesberg’s Iconic Photography

The GRAMMY Museum® invites music lovers and art enthusiasts alike to explore RetroBlakesberg: The Music Never Stopped, a stunning solo exhibit showcasing the remarkable photography of Jay Blakesberg. Opening on November 8 and running through June 15, 2025, this collection spans three decades—from 1978 to 2008—capturing seminal moments in music history exclusively on film.

Blakesberg, hailing from New Jersey, found his passion for photography intertwined with his love for the Grateful Dead, setting him on a lifelong journey to document the artists behind the sounds that resonate across genres such as rock, grunge, hip-hop, and blues. RetroBlakesberg offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a visual narrative rich with the essence of musical creativity.

The exhibit features:
150 striking film photographs spotlighting a diverse array of artists, including Björk, Snoop Dogg, Nirvana, and Neil Young.
20 captivating “blue” portraits, where musicians from Green Day to Joni Mitchell are immortalized through Blakesberg’s experimental use of film techniques.
– A deep dive into the Grateful Dead’s vibrant psychedelic scene, a testament to Blakesberg’s enduring dedication as a “Dead Head.”

Jay Blakesberg expressed his excitement, stating, “As a lifelong music fan, having my work exhibited at the GRAMMY Museum feels like a dream come true. I’m beyond thrilled for this opportunity and honored to have my art connected to one of the world’s most iconic music institutions!”

Curated by Jay and Ricki Blakesberg, alongside chief curator Jasen Emmons, this exhibit celebrates the profound relationship between photography and music, honoring legendary artists in a setting that embodies their cultural impact.
