Due to illness, soprano Kelly O’Connor is unable to perform Peter Liberson’s Neruda Songs at this weekend’s orchestra concerts. In her place, Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero will perform Rachmaninoff’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2.

“Montero’s playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power in climactic movements, soulful lyricism in the ruminative passages and, best of all, unsentimental expressivity,” writes Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times. Her return to New World Symphony is not to be missed!

These special performances see Artistic Director Stéphane Denève lead New World Symphony in the romance and drama of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Visions of Cahokia, a recent composition inspired by an ancient indigenous metropolis.

Bring someone special and arrive early for chocolate-covered strawberries, coffee and cocktails in New World Center’s Frank Gehry-designed atrium.
