The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly announces FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI 2015 presented by TotalBank, returning for an 8th season featuring four glorious performances by one of Spain’s foremost ambassadors of flamenco, BALLET FLAMENCO SARA BARAS, in the Center’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall from March 12-14, 2015.

Sara Baras has become internationally famous for her brilliant footwork and captivating stage presence over a career that has spanned more than 20 years. As an ambassador of Spanish culture to the world, Baras was asked to lend her image for the creation of Spain Barbie®; was honored by the Spanish government with a commemorative postage stamp; and has been the face of major international brands such as Cartier and Freixenet.
For their Miami engagement, BALLET FLAMENCO SARA BARAS performs VOCES, a thrilling new evening-length work created by Baras as a tribute to the great proponents (or “voices”) of flamenco – Paco de Lucia, Antonio Gades, Enrique Morente, Moraito and Carmen Amaya. Baras will be joined on stage by her company of dancers, including guest artist José Serrano, and her group of seven vocalists and musicians.
“Flamenco Festival Miami has become one of the premier flamenco events in the country, its power and majesty enjoyed by more than 40,000 people in our community. This season’s headlining company – Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras – promises to bring to Miami the rich flamenco tradition with the modern new twists that herald the new world of flamenco dance growing in Spain,” said John Richard, Arsht Center President and CEO.
Sara Baras has earned dozens of prestigious dance awards, including Spain’s highest dance honor (National Dance Award), France’s Medaille de Vermeil de la Villa de Paris, Kennedy Center’s Gold Medal in the Arts and the National Dance Gold Medal of Andalucía, the birthplace of flamenco. Described by The Guardian as a “woman who can dance up not just a flamenco storm, but a hurricane,” Baras has created and choreographed 11 original evening works and delivered more than 2,500 magnificent performances with her company all over the world.
Opening night (March 12) of FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI 2015 presented by TotalBank is part of the Knight Masterworks Season – Signature Dance Series made possible with support from Knight Foundation.
