New World Center
Exploring the rich history of Mexican art, music and cinema, El Maíz de mi Gente (The Corn of my People) offers audiences a glimpse into some of the greatest Mexican composers of the 20th and 21st century. Throughout the evening, clips from contemporary Mexican filmmakers will be used to tell the Mayan creation story, which recounts the Gods’ attempts to form Man from clay, stone, wood and corn.
This multimedia experience designed by Fellows James Zabawa-Martinez, Julia Karstens and Luis Salazar seeks to celebrate the similarities and differences in all of us as humans. As Luis likes to say, “there’s no one way to eat your taco.”
Tickets are just $25
