January 24-27Ziff Ballet Opera House |
| Johann Strauss’ beloved operetta is the perfect burst of joy and elegance to start the year. Its music is known worldwide, even by those who may not realize it, as it has been featured in films, commercials and celebrations. In Europe, Die Fledermaus is one of the most famous and beloved operettas, a perennial New Year’s tradition in Vienna and beyond. In this effervescent operetta, you’ll find one of the most famous French cancans ever written and a lighthearted, celebratory atmosphere.
The cast is truly world-class. Joyce El-Khoury, Nathan Gunn, Louis Otey, John Viscardi, Rebecca Nelsen and Ginger Costa-Jackson—who recently starred in Florida Grand Opera’s Carmen—will grace the stage, with Costa-Jackson taking on the mysterious role of Count Orlofsky. This Viennese classic has been given a touch of Miami style and a hint of Latino flair. With spectacular, art deco sets—originally designed for Glyndebourne and Geneva—this production is visually breathtaking. More than 150 performers will appear onstage, making the show a grand celebration of music, theater and dance. The songs will be in German, and the dialogue will be in English. English and Spanish supertitles will be projected above the stage. |
