Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center Presents American Patchwork Quartet

The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center proudly presents the American Patchwork Quartet on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 8 p.m. Featuring GRAMMY®-winning vocalist Falu, this genre-defying ensemble reimagines centuries-old American folk songs with modern, cross-cultural arrangements that reflect the country’s immigrant roots and contemporary global influences. Tickets are available here.

The American Patchwork Quartet brings together four acclaimed musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds: GRAMMY®-winning guitarist/vocalist Clay Ross, three-time GRAMMY®-winning drummer Clarence Penn, and acclaimed bassist Yasushi Nakamura, alongside Falu. Their music is a rich fusion of jazz sophistication, country twang, West African rhythms, and East Asian ornamentation, breathing new life into timeless American folk traditions.

American Patchwork Quartet’s performances are a masterful blend of tradition and innovation, celebrating America’s cultural tapestry while offering a powerful symbol of unity in diversity. By drawing on each member’s unique heritage, the band crafts a sound that transcends cultural, political, and ideological boundaries, creating a cohesive and beautiful whole from varied influences.

With their self-titled debut album, American Patchwork Quartet explores a range of themes, delving into the concepts of identity, cultural fusion, mutual respect, and universal humanity. Weaving together sounds inspired by everything from English ballads to Lowcountry Gullah music to North Indian classical traditions, the quartet breathes new life into timeless songs, retelling stories that have resonated through generations.
