Seeking solutions for widespread unemployment during the Great Depression, the U.S. government embarked on New Deal programs that commissioned out-of-work artists. These initiatives produced paintings, sculptures, and murals, some of which still adorn public buildings today.

Sit down with curator Lea Nickless and Marianne Lamonaca, former Wolfsonian associate director and current FIU program director of The Humanities Edge, as they explore the New Deal works in The Big World: Alternative Landscapes in the Modern Eraand discuss their enduring legacies.
