Cruise Shipping Miami is organizing its second annual Charity Motorcycle Ride benefiting Fort Lauderdale’s Seafarers’ House Sunday, March 13, the day before the 27th annual cruise industry exhibition and conference opens in Miami Beach. Sponsors of the event include Mavco Inc., Allied Printing and K-Sport.
Dozens of participants are expected to begin the 90-minute scenic ride at 10:30 a.m. at the Port of Miami and continue through the Everglades to Everglades City, Fla. Bikers will have lunch at The Oyster House Restaurant in Everglades City and receive a commemorative T-shirt and pin before returning tom Miami by the same route.
“We believe in giving back to the community, and this is a great way to demonstrate UBM’s corporate social responsibility while providing motorcycle enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy South Florida’s beautiful scenery,” said Michael Kazakoff, vice president of UBM Live, organizers of Cruise Shipping Miami. “March in Miami is beautiful, and we anticipate a warm, sunny ride through the incomparable Everglades landscape.”
Proceeds will benefit Seafarers’ House, a nonprofit organization established in 1988 that offers refuge, resources and counseling to crewmembers aboard cruise and cargo ships that call at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
“Those of us who enjoy motorcycling and have been part of the cruise and shipping community are pleased to be able to enjoy a great ride with friends and provide support to a great organization like the Seafarers’ House,” said Bill Hamlin, partner at Jamian McElroy & Hamlin LLC, and who is on the event planning board.
“Our team is deeply committed to extending hospitality and emergency assistance to mariners visiting Port Everglades as well as those who work in our port community,” said Lesley Warrick, executive director of Seafarers’ House. “But our work is only made possible through the support of groups like UBM and the motorcycle ride participants who champion both our mariners and our mission.”
Bikers can register online at www.cruiseshippingmiami.com/charity-ride-info. Participants also can register the morning of the event from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Port of Miami World Trade Center Building. The registration fee of $50 includes lunch, T-shirt and a commemorative pin.
