Bal Harbour Shops to Showcase Luxury Automotive Art

The Bugatti Baby II is a reincarnation of the iconic Bugatti Type 35, developed using a full 3D scan of an original 1924 French Grand Prix car.

For one week only, Bal Harbour Shops will transform its center courtyard into a haven for automotive enthusiasts, featuring a dazzling fleet of luxury vehicles reimagined by acclaimed designer Ben Hedley. From February 11 to 17, the iconic shopping destination will host the exhibition “Drivable Art,” showcasing a collection that pairs the thrill of speed with the elegance of craftsmanship.

At first glance, the idea of miniature replicas of famous motorcars may evoke visions of toys for children. However, Hedley, founder and creative director of Hedley Studios, assures that these creations are anything but child’s play. Armed with a master’s degree from Cambridge University and a lifelong passion for the automotive industry, Hedley channels his admiration for legends like Enzo Ferrari, Bruce McLaren, and Gordon Murray into groundbreaking designs that blend nostalgia with modern innovation.

The journey for Hedley began in 2019 when carmaker Bugatti approached him to craft a recreation of the legendary Type 35 race car. This collaboration culminated in the launch of the ‘Bugatti Baby II,’ an all-electric vehicle that has set the stage for Hedley’s most ambitious projects yet. With a production limit of just 500 units, the Baby II has ignited a wave of excitement for collectors and aficionados alike.

From March 14th to 17th, the Center Courtyard invites visitors to join “Cars & Coffee” from 3 to 5 p.m., offering a chance to appreciate the craftsmanship of the Aston Martin DB5 Vantage Junior—an elegant homage to the iconic vehicle immortalized by James Bond. While slightly larger than its Bugatti sibling, the DB5 J offers comparable performance, accommodating two adults for a comfortable ride.

Continuing the legacy of legendary vehicles, Hedley Studios introduces the Ferrari Testa Rossa J, a 75 percent scale replica of the celebrated 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. Limited to just 299 units, this exquisite model features a 5.4-kWh battery pack and boasts a top speed of 50 mph. Its unique ‘manettino’ switch allows drivers to select from four distinct drive modes, ensuring an exhilarating driving experience reminiscent of its racing predecessors.

Perhaps the pièce de résistance of the collection is the Bentley Blower Jnr, the only street-legal model designed by Hedley Studios. Drawing inspiration from the 1929 Bentley Blower that made waves at Le Mans, this all-electric, 85 percent scale tribute to open-top classics combines heritage with cutting-edge technology.

Situated at Bicester Heritage, a former Royal Air Force site, Hedley Studios operates as a sanctuary for craftsmanship, where each model is meticulously crafted under Hedley’s guidance. Every creation is personally signed by the designer and includes an official chassis plate from the original manufacturer, making it not just a vehicle, but a piece of automotive art.

As the Hedley Studios collection graces Bal Harbour Shops, car lovers and casual observers alike can revel in the beauty of these meticulously crafted machines. The exhibition promises to be a celebration of automotive history, innovation, and artistry—a must-see event for anyone captivated by the allure of luxury vehicles.
