Arts for Learning Launches Free Performing Arts Summer Camp

June 9 – July 25

Arts for Learning (A4L) is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Lewis Arts Studio Performing Arts Summer Program, an exciting – free – opportunity for students in grades 4 – 8 to explore dance, theater, and creative movement in a supportive and inspiring environment.

From June 9 – July 25, students will dive into dance, theater, and movement—learning how to tell stories, shine on stage, and express who they are through the performing arts. At the Sanctuary of the Arts at St. Mary’s, just blocks away from the Lewis Arts Studio Visual Arts building, this program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of performance, including storytelling, stage presence, and choreography. Through a dynamic mix of structured activities and imaginative play, participants will spark confidence, ignite creativity, and discover new and meaningful ways to express themselves. The program will culminate in closing performances where students will share their accomplishments with family and friends.

“Our goal is to provide a space where students can explore their creativity, build confidence, and find their voice through the performing arts,” said Ivy S. Bennett, Program Director at Arts for Learning. “We’re excited to expand the Lewis Arts Studio’s offerings, and give children interested in performing arts a fantastic way to develop their artistic abilities and strengths while having fun and making lasting friendships.”

Arts for Learning first launched the Lewis Arts Studio in the summer of 2009 as a visual arts program for students in grades 6 – 8. This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of Arts for Learning, Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), the City of Miami Mayor’s Office, The Miami Foundation, and the Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis Foundation. Over the years, the program evolved, expanding in 2023 to serve 4th and 5th graders, providing even more young artists with access to high-quality instruction, mentorship, and the space to learn and grow.

The Lewis Arts Studio Visual Arts program is also accepting applications to its free Visual Arts Summer Camp for grades 4 – 8 at the Lewis Arts Studio, 101 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove, FL 33133.

The Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis Foundation played a pivotal role in bringing the studio to life, offering the lead financial support that made the program a reality. Today, the Foundation continues to provide annual funding, sustaining studio activities, operations, and scholarships. It also serves as a strategic partner, helping the program expand in both depth and impact. Named in honor of Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis, the program celebrates their unwavering commitment to the power of arts as a vehicle for empowering youth and community.
