October is Wynwood at its best. The Wynwood Business Improvement District has stacked the month with free events, major festivals, new restaurant openings and a Halloween weekend that has been running for 13 years. Here is the full picture -- what is free, what costs money, and what is worth planning around.
Free Art and Live Music
Saturday, October 10 -- Wynwood Art Walk: The monthly Art Walk brings an evening of exhibitions, openings and activities to the district's galleries, museums, studios and shops. The headline this month: Wynwood Walls, 2516 NW 2nd Avenue, opens free of charge from 5 to 10 p.m., with additional programming at participating venues throughout the neighborhood. No ticket, no reservation -- just show up.
Thursday, October 15 -- Matt Brown at Panther Coffee: The Wynwood Music Series presents soul musician and loop artist Matt Brown from noon to 2 p.m. on the outdoor patio at Panther Coffee, 2390 NW 2nd Avenue. Brown is a multi-instrumentalist and founder of the Soulfam Collective who builds full-band sound in real time using live looping. Free and open to everyone. Full preview here.
Every Thursday -- Caleb Cache at Moxy Wynwood: Caleb Cache performs from 7 to 10 p.m. in the second-floor bar and lobby at Moxy Wynwood, 255 NW 25th Street. No cover charge. During October, the hotel also offers three $10 fall cocktails before 10 p.m. through Salud! Miami Cocktail Month.
Festivals and Major Events
October 16-17 -- III Points: The festival returns to Mana Wynwood with a lineup that includes Underworld, Four Tet, Blood Orange, Charlotte de Witte, Lil' Kim and Flying Lotus. Tickets and full festival details are available at iiipoints.com.
Saturday, October 24 -- Got Sole Miami: Sneakers, streetwear, vintage pieces, trading cards and collectibles come to Mana Wynwood Convention Center, 318 NW 23rd Street, from noon to 6 p.m. Visitors can buy, sell and trade, with giveaways and live performances throughout. Tickets are $36.
Wednesday, October 28 -- James Beard Foundation Taste America Dinner: The dinner begins at 7 p.m. at Wynwood Event Center, 239 NW 28th Street. Chefs Raheem Sealey and Monika Dominguez of Shiso Miami join Sebastian Vargas of Los Felix for a four-course dinner with wine pairings. Tickets are $165. Details at jamesbeard.org.
Halloween Weekend
Saturday, October 31 -- HalloWYN (13th year): HalloWYN returns to Wynwood Marketplace, 2250 NW 2nd Avenue, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. The free Halloween celebration features DJs, food trucks, a scare zone and costumes throughout the venue. Guests who RSVP in advance receive a complimentary drink. Free admission.
Friday, October 30 -- Nightmare in Wynwood: Check-in at The Dirty Rabbit from 5 to 8 p.m. For guests 21 and older.
Saturday, October 31 -- Halloween Bar Crawl: Check-in at Bar Tulio's from 5 to 8 p.m. For guests 21 and older.
Saturday, October 31 -- R House of Villains: RuPaul's Drag Race performer Mistress Isabelle Brooks headlines at R House, 2727 NW 2nd Avenue, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. A $500 villain costume contest runs throughout the night. Admission is $15 with a welcome shot, for guests 21 and older.
New Arrivals
Two new spots give visitors more places to stop between events. LITO, at 137 NW 26th Street, features chef Junior Santos' cooking inspired by Italy, France and Spain, with dishes designed for sharing. 27 Club Coffee, the Cleveland-born coffee brand from musician Machine Gun Kelly, has opened in Wynwood Jungle at 50 NW 24th Street, Unit 102, serving its signature pink latte and specialty coffee.
On View and Coming Up
At the Museum of Graffiti, 276 NW 26th Street, DISEM: Who Authorized This? remains on view through November 15. The Miami artist's first museum exhibition includes previously unexhibited portraits of local creatives, drawing on more than 25 years of work in the city.
Friday, October 30 -- Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda Trail: The Wynwood BID launches its first Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda Trail, with participating businesses building ofrendas inside their spaces to form a walkable trail through the neighborhood. Sunday, November 8 -- South Florida Seafood Festival: The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Wynwood Marketplace, with seafood, live music, chef demonstrations and family activities. Children under 12 enter free. Worth putting on the calendar now.
Throughout October, Salud! Miami Cocktail Month offers specially priced cocktails before 10 p.m. at participating bars. Miami Spice also continues through October 31 at select restaurants, with three-course lunch and brunch menus for $40 and dinner menus for $50 or $65. Full details at wynwoodmiami.com.
