America’s First “City of Happiness” Features Inclusive Family Day This Weekend on April 5

Pinecrest Gardens continues the World Happiness Festival and the HaPPI project with Family Garden Day, taking place this weekend on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event promises a magical day of learning, gardening, creativity, and fun in the beautiful surroundings of Pinecrest Gardens. It is tailored to be inclusive for all families, including special accommodations for neurodivergent and cognitive-sensitive guests with an Early Access Sensory Hour at 9:30 a.m.

 

Highlights of this year’s Family Garden Day include:

 

  • Scavenger Hunt: Embark on a family-friendly scavenger hunt through the gardens with a special Pinecrest Gardens sticker awarded at the end.

 

  • Plant-a-Seed Activity: Get hands-on with nature by planting seeds to take home and nurture.

 

  • Sensory Garden Activities: Participate in specially designed experiences that stimulate the senses and encourage exploration of the natural world.

 

  • Mini Zoo: Get up close with friendly animals and learn about different species in our small but fascinating zoo enclosure.

 

  • Sensory-Friendly Quiet Room: Access a peaceful retreat space designed for those who may need a break from sensory stimulation.

 

  • Animal Talk and Show: Learn fascinating facts about our zoo animals during our engaging and educational animal presentation.

 

  • Garden-Themed Sensory Bins and Hands-on Play: Engage with nature-inspired tactile activities designed to stimulate the senses and encourage exploration.

 

  • Live Dance and Music Performances: Enjoy performances by Pinecrest Dance Project, Pinecrest City Music Project and Mr. J. Jams.

 

  • Art Galleries: Visit the onsite galleries to view a rotating collection of works by local and national artists.

 

  • Interactive Exhibitions: Discover interactive and educational exhibitions from Pinecrest Gardens’ partners and societies.

  • Lush Walking Trails and Aquatic Animals: Stroll through scenic pathways and observe aquatic wildlife in their natural habitats

  • Splash n’ Play: This water playground features whimsical water spouts from a giant dragon, flower, mushroom, and fire hydrant.

 

  •  Access to Pinecrest Gardens’ ADA-Accessible Activities: Experience the garden’s inclusive features, such as nature trails, an ADA-accessible playground, mini-zoo.

 

  • Make it a Picnic: Savor delicious treats and refreshments available for purchase throughout the day from various food vendors.

 

Admission to this event is $8 per person (in advance) or $10 per person (at the gate). Please note this event has limited capacity.  Tickets can be purchased online or at the door on event day, and they provide full access to all activities and exhibits. Pinecrest Gardens Family Members receive free admission with a valid ID. Advance registration is encouraged to ensure a great experience for all attendees.

 

“Family Garden Day continues the celebration of Pinecrest’s designation by the World Happiness Foundation as America’s first City of Happiness,” said Cristina Blanco, executive director. “Building on the success of the World Happiness Festival, we’re bringing Pinecrest’s HaPPI initiative to life by connecting families with nature, art, and interactive exploration, enhancing collective well-being in ways that are engaging and accessible for everyone.”
