ALPI, the Italian leader in reconstituted wood surfaces, partners with Stephen Burks Man Made for “The Lost Cloth Object,” a capsule collection debuting at Design Miami 2025, December 2-7. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Design Miami, the installation explores the intersection of heritage, craft, and innovation under the curatorial theme *Make. Believe.*
Inspired by Kuba textile traditions from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the collection reimagines geometric Kuba patterns through ALPI’s innovative use of sustainable and endangered woods such as ebony and zebrawood. Developed through cultural research and a workshop with Kuba artisans in Kinshasa, the project emphasizes storytelling and cultural preservation.

The installation features furniture pieces like rocking stools and partitions that blend Kuba motifs with Italian design, showcasing material innovation and cross-cultural dialogue. Curatorial Director Glenn Adamson highlights the project’s dynamic fusion of pattern and timber artistry, symbolizing the future of cultural craftsmanship in contemporary design.
