Bass Museum of Art teams up with Doodle 4 Google 2012

Premier Guide Miami

Celebrate the finalists of Doodle 4 Google™, a contest where students in the United States were asked to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google’s homepage logo for millions to see. Bass Museum of Art will be celebrating the Florida state winner and nine runner-ups with an exhibition in the Lindemann Family Creativity Center coinciding with IDEA@thebass monthly family day on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Chosen from more than 114,000 entries, the 10 masterpieces, including the Florida state winner, a 17-year old student from Miami, represents some of the top ‘doodles’ from this year’s contest. The 10 Florida winners, will be on view in the Lindemann Family Creativity Center through the month of June.

Bass Museum of Art announced today that it will be supporting Doodle 4 Google 2012 by exhibiting ‘doodles’ by 10 Florida state finalists in June 2012 in the newly opened Lindemann Family Creativity Center.

Additionally, this month’s IDEA@thebass family day on Sunday, February 26th   (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) will provide students with the opportunity to create their own Google doodle.  Doodle 4 Google is a competition open to K-12 students of U.S. schools to create their own Google doodle.  Students will be provided with Crayola crayons and watercolors to create artwork for the contest in a specially designated Doodle 4 Google creativity area in the newly opened Lindemann Family Creativity Center.

“We love partnerships that share the Bass Museum’s mission of promoting creativity and are thrilled to join forces with Google to host State of Florida’s finalists. Today’s doodlers are tomorrow’s old masters,” said George Lindemann, President of the Board of Directors, Bass Museum of Art.

Doodle 4 Google is one of several efforts by Google to encourage and celebrate the creativity of young people by asking students to create their own Google doodle. The theme this year is: “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”

Doodle 4 Google gives students a blank canvas to harness their curiosity and imagine the past, present, and/or future anywhere in the world.

The Deadline for submission of doodles is March 23, 2012.  All submissions need to be submitted directly to Google. For more information: www.google.com/Doodle4Google.

Once doodles have been submitted to Google by March 23rd, a team of Googlers and then guest judges — such as Katy Perry, Phineas and Ferb creator and executive producer Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, and recording artist Jordin Sparks — will help choose the top doodles. On May 2nd, Google will give the final vote to you, and one winner from each grade group will be chosen by a public vote. First prize will be awarded to the winning doodler on May 17th, and their doodle will be showcased on google.com on May 18th.

Bass Museum of Art will showcase the 10 finalists from the State of Florida by presenting the ‘doodles’ in the Lindemann Family Creativity Center for the month of June, 2012.  There will be a reception in honor of the finalists coinciding with IDEA@thebass monthly family day on Sunday, June 24th, 2012.

In addition to seeing his or her artwork hanging in the Bass Museum of Art and on the Google homepage, the winning doodler takes home a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school.

Spread the love!
