The culminating event of Elliot & Erick Jiménez: El Monte—a conversation between artists Elliot & Erick Jiménez and Franklin Sirmans, Sandra and Tony Tamer director at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). From the lush, ethereal landscapes of their latest exhibition to their iconic fashion photography and collaborations with global icons like Bad Bunny, the discussion will center around the creative vision of two of Miami’s most compelling voices.
This debut museum exhibition by Miami-born twins Elliot and Erick Jiménez is an entirely new body of work inspired by the spiritual tradition of Lucumí—a syncretic Afro-Caribbean religion that emerged in late nineteenth-century Cuba bringing together elements of Yoruba, Catholicism, and Spiritism—and by Lydia Cabrera’s seminal text El Monte. Through photography, sculpture, and mixed media, El Monte immerses visitors into the world of Lucumí, its sacred cosmologies, the twins’ lived experiences, and the complicated history of Western art.
