Miami International Airport Hits New Milestones in 2025: Record Passenger and Cargo Growth

Miami International Airport (MIA) cemented its status as a global travel and freight hub in 2025, surpassing key milestones with impressive growth across both passenger traffic and cargo shipments.

Passenger traffic at MIA reached 55.3 million travelers, just 1% shy of the record set in 2024, marking the second consecutive year exceeding 55 million. Despite a 2% decline in domestic travel nationwide, MIA outperformed the trend, underscoring robust regional demand. The airport served 24.8 million international and 30.5 million domestic passengers, reaffirming Miami-Dade County’s position as a premier international gateway.

Cargo shipments also soared, jumping 13.6% to nearly 3.5 million tons, marking the sixth straight year of record-breaking freight volume. As the busiest U.S. airport for international freight, MIA continues to thrive, fueling trade, jobs, and economic growth across the region.

The airport wrapped up 2025 with a strong winter holiday season, welcoming nearly 3.3 million travelers during December 19 – January 5, a 1.2% increase over the previous year. January likewise saw a 1.5% rise in passenger numbers, fueling optimism for an even busier 2026, highlighted by a year filled with major sports and entertainment events attracting millions to Miami-Dade.

Recognized for excellence, MIA was named North America’s most-improved mega airport by J.D. Power, awarded Best Airport for Layovers by Global Traveler, ranked among the Top 10 U.S. airports for food and drink by Food and Wine magazine, and ranked third for business travelers by Booking.com for Business.

With continued growth driven by a $9 billion Modernization in Action plan, MIA’s leadership and dedicated workforce are positioning Miami as a top global aviation hub—delivering opportunities, connectivity, and world-class service.
