| The festival opens February 26 with a performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti 2, 3 and 4, performed by the Mostly Baroque Chamber Orchestra under the direction of director Dr. David Hartman. The opening concert will also feature G.P. Telemann’s Don Quichotte suite, which the South Florida Classical Review described as “imbued with charm!”
On February 27, rising concert artist and composer Johan Hartman will be performing a collection of beloved favorites and original songs. The program has such greats as Gerald Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring (a setting of five Shakespeare songs) and the Don Quixotesongs of Jacques Ibert. Critic Patricia Silver hailed Hartman’s Blood and the Moon, soon to be released by Constitution Records, as a “beautiful … intricate composition … both modern and dark.”
The final day of the festival concludes with Mostly Baroque’s critically acclaimed production of Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, a light and charming comedic opera about one servant’s plan to become the master of the house, starring Yi-Chun Sarah Tsai and Johan Hartman. South Florida Classical Review raved that “[their] stylish and bright delivery consistently enchanted the ear.”
Mostly Baroque are a South Florida-based instrumental ensemble founded by the honorific Dr. David Hartman who have been active in Miami since 1997. They are dedicated to the historically informed performance of the music of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, among other Baroque composers.
