Miami International Airport Launches Major Accessibility Upgrade with 41 Wheelchair Lifts

As part of its historic $9 billion Future-Ready Modernization in Action plan, Miami International Airport will install 41 jet bridge-mounted wheelchair lifts across all concourses starting next week. This essential upgrade enhances accessibility for travelers with reduced mobility, streamlining boarding and ensuring a more inclusive travel experience.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasizes the airport’s commitment to equity, innovation, and care, stating, “An airport that works for everyone is an airport that truly leads.” Each concourse will receive at least three lifts, with additional installations planned for future phases.

This initiative is a key component of MIA’s broader modernization, which also includes new security checkpoints, upgraded terminals, expanded gates, and cutting-edge baggage systems—building a stronger, smarter, and more accessible airport for decades to come.
