New Playwrights’ Festival, directed by NWSA theater faculty, Maggie Maxwell, is a collection of short plays written by high school and college students, and directed by faculty and college students. The Festival teaches students the process of new material and encourages students to be more well rounded storytellers. Curating this festival is an intensive, months-long process that begins at the start of the year. From forming a play selection committee to reading through every submission with care and intention, to casting each production and assembling the creative teams, every step is taken to foster a space where emerging voices can thrive.

“The shows highlight the brilliant and creative storytellers of tomorrow. Each piece represents the bold voices of playwrights who have something urgent, moving, and profound to share with the world. This festival is not just a performance, it’s a platform for new artists to make their mark and tell the stories that matter to them,” noted Maxwell.
