We Bend but We Don’t Break: Views from the Haitian Diaspora
On View October 25, 2024 through February 3, 2025
Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is pleased to announce We Bend but We Don’t Break: Views from the Haitian Diaspora, a video art program highlighting the cultural contributions of Haitian Diaspora artists on PAMMTV.
The title of the program, We Bend but We Don’t Break, alludes to the Haitian proverb explored in artist Monica Sorelle’s work, Reeds/Wozo: Movement Study I: “Nou se wozo, nou pliye nou pa kase. [We are reeds, we bend but we don’t break.]” In response to current headlines across the United States, the four videos featured in this exhibition range between two and twenty-five minutes in length, celebrating perspectives across Haiti’s vibrant diaspora from South Florida to Toronto. Collectively, the works of Miryam Charles, Edny Jean Joseph, Esery Mondesir, and Monica Sorelle reflect on evolving definitions of liberation, family, and home.
We Bend but We Don’t Break: Views from the Haitian Diaspora is on view to global audiences via PAMMTV, the museum’s online streaming platform from October 25, 2024 through February 3, 2025 |
