WHAT:           Chicago’s Knuckle Puck specialize in a muscular and melodic blend of old-school punk rock and emo. Drawing well-earned comparisons to bands like the Wonder Years and Rise Against, the band put out a trio of self-released EPs (Knuckle Puck Demo, Don’t Come Home and The Weight That You Buried). A deal was struck with Rise Records, and Knuckle Puck finally released their debut album, Copacetic, which made a solid showing on the alternative and hard rock charts as well as Billboard’s Top 200. Tours of the U.S. and Europe followed.  Later Knuckle Puck released “Gone,” the first of three singles from their sophomore LP, Shapeshifter,. The group’s third LP, 20/20, arrived in August of its titular year, heralded by the singles “RSVP” and “Breathe.”

Chicago punk-pop group Real Friends found success with an explosive, emo-driven sound. The album,Maybe This Place Is the Same and We’re Just Changing, was an immediate success, hitting number 24 on the Billboard 200 album chart and netting the group a spot on the Vans Warped Tour. Real Friendsentered the studio to record their second full-length album which featured more deeply personal and emotionally hard-hitting material. The Home Inside My Head was followed a couple years later byComposure. The band marked a new era with the EP Torn in Two. Surrounding the EP were various smaller releases, including acoustic versions and alternate reworkings of songs like “Nervous Wreck,” “Storyteller,” and “Teeth.”
