Luis Pons Design Lab presents Tangara Collection by Luis Pons

Luis Pons Design Lab develops concepts from the inside out, rejecting the separation between buildings, interiors, and furniture, always thinking in terms of systems.

Each project or piece of furniture may be considered as an experimental laboratory, exploring its varying possibilities—the effects of altering and mutating products in order to generate many others—redesigning traditional forms and changing their functions, as well as transcending to new creative applications.

The Tangara Collection arises as a result of the collaboration between Vermeil and Luis Pons Design Lab. The design concept envisions a new meaning for the wood hinge, a feature that was previously crafted by Vermeil and rethought by Pons to create a brand-new family of furniture pieces.

The collection uses the wood hinge as a functional and constructive method, resulting in a minimal but complex expression of carpentry. Just as stitching is used to sew fabrics to create an haute couture dress, the Tangara Collection pieces are assembled by interlocking wood or composite panels to build the cabinets.

Because of the modular qualities of the cabinets, finishes, and colors, they can be grouped together to create multiple configurations that adjust to clients’ needs. Sideboards, dressers, bars, and nightstands can be adapted to their current visual aesthetics and functional programs. The collection’s concept is to be interactive; each piece’s purpose strictly depends on its users, allowing the possibility of change in order to obtain differing interpretations and results.
