11TH ANNUAL "MOONLIGHT & MUSIC" VALENTINE'S DAY CONCERT AT THE DEERING ESTATE

Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the 11th annual “Moonlight & Music” Valentine’s Day Concert at the Deering Estate on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. This year’s concert will feature award-winning singer, songwriter and pianist Johnny Rodgers – and the Johnny Rodgers Band.

The “Moonlight & Music” Concert is a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Miami. Couples can enjoy a romantic outdoor concert under the stars, on the edge of Biscayne Bay. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets. No coolers permitted.  Limited refreshments and food will be available for an additional fee. Concert tickets are $20 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased online at www.deeringestate.org for an additional fee of $2.50 per ticket or by calling the Deering Estate Ticket Office at 305-235-1668 ext. 233. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m. Parking is free.

About the artist:

Johnny Rodgers is an award-winning singer-songwriter-pianist and entertainer who is a favorite in the Florida, East coast and New York performance scenes. Johnny’s original songs are a blend of sophisticated, bubbly and romantic pop ballads, (James) Taylor-laced melodies, and sultry jazz all stirred up with his unparalleled piano-passion.

Johnny Rodgers and the Johnny Rodgers Band are creating fans in the U.S. and abroad. The Band was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center and U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs for the renowned Rhythm Road International Tour in 2010 to share their Americana Pop music with the world. They describe their Americana Pop music as today’s vibrancy of sound with roots in diverse musical styling’s that have made American music popular around the world.  The Johnny Rodgers Band features Brian Glassman on bass, Joe Ravo on guitar, Danny Mallon on drums and Johnny Rodgers on piano with his powerful vocals.

Liza Minnelli discovered Rodgers and brought him on as her pianist and guest performer for her world tours. He recently debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning Liza’s at the Palace which was recorded and played by PBS on stations across the country.  Johnny co-wrote the show’s featured song I Would Never Leave You and is included on the show’s recent DVD release as well as the Grammy-nominated CD.

Johnny Rodgers is a Miami native and resides in New York City.  He grew up in Miami and attended Southwood Middle School and New World School of the Arts with a concentration on Musical Theatre. He attended the University of Miami studying in the Frost School of Music jazz program and graduated from Western Michigan University in jazz studies, piano and voice.
