SOUTH FLORIDA FORD LAUNCHES THE FORDISTAS UNRESERVED APP DURING MIAMI ART WEEK DECEMBER 1 – 6

SOUTH FLORIDA FORD LAUNCHES THE FORDISTAS UNRESERVED MOBILE APP DURING MIAMI ART WEEK Fordistas, the ever-changing arts and culture platform by South Florida Ford, breaks new ground into the soundscape duringMiami Art Week with ‘unreserved’ – an immersive audio experience mobile app. The Fordistas program is a platform for original artistic expressions powered by South Florida Ford.  The ‘unreserved’ project is a collaborative effort with sound artist Halsey Burgund. Burgund is a fellow at the MIT Open Documentary Lab and creator of Roundware, an experimental, GPS-enabled, open-source, mobile audio platform that is the backbone for ‘unreserved’.

With the ‘unreserved’ app, the public and artists alike are invited to download the free app, launching December 1st in the App Store, and contribute to an ever-evolving sound collage of voices, street sounds and musical elements. Through the contribution of his or her own voice, each individual will have the chance to participate in the creation of a sonic work of art that will form a collective representation.

As a form of audio graffiti, an urban soundtrack, or an expanded version of street art, users will be able to engage with the geo-sensitive app from strategic locations throughout Wynwood and beyond. As participants access the application on their smartphones, they will have the opportunity to interact with the space while documenting the pulse of the city.

Fordistas previewed the ‘unreserved’ app at the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Third Thursday: Poplife Social on Thursday, November 19th in Miami. Artists and community influencers were able to add their unique voices creating the first layer of the acoustic canvas while wandering through the stunning parking structure and surrounding museum gardens.

The collaborative effort will be available for public viewing in the form of a sound installation where the voices will come together in a sonic and visual collective conversation at Fordistas Gallery and neighboring Butter Gallery to experience the blending of the community’s Miami Art Week experiences one layer of a sound at a time.

The perennial growth of Miami Art Week has in many ways created a culture of inaccessibility for both artists and spectators. Within a restricted visual landscape artists strive to showcase their work in increasingly curated spaces, either in galleries or on Wynwood wall space, while the public is limited to the role of spectator.

“I find it incredibly exciting as well as entirely nerve-wrecking each time I unleash a new project because I have no idea what will happen,” said Burgund. “I do not control the outcome, but rather only create an infrastructure within which participants can act however they choose. Wynwood is a unique area both culturally and physically. I look forward to hearing how residents and visitors alike help build the collective layer of audio over time.”

The project’s name references the practice of reserving wall space for work on murals, while invoking a greater sense of accessibility, collective participation and expressive freedom –– without reservation. By eliminating the barriers to participation, unreserved hopes to engage the community in forming part of this interactive auditory experience.
