The Catalina Hotel in Miami Beach was a buzz on Tuesday night (May 22nd) when the cast of “The Catalina” reality show made their first public appearance together for the red carpet premiere party, amidst huge speculation about who else from the world of reality television was going to make an appearance. Attendees of the invitation-only event were not disappointed.
Soon-to-be ex-husband of Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries, showed-up solo at Kung Fu, the hotel’s popular sushi restaurant where the premiere party took place, to show support for his good friend, Adrian Baschuk, co-executive producer of the new reality show debuting on May 29th on The CW. Humphries tucked himself away in the side room of the hotel’s restaurant, and was quickly greeted by several good-looking blonde women, who circled him while he watched the Miami Heat thrash the Indiana Pacers on the big-screen TV behind the bar.
“Adrian is a good friend of mine and I wanted to show him support for the new show,” Humphries said. After giving the three executive producers a massive bear hug while laughing in front of a barrage of paparazzi, he took photos on the red carpet with Baschuk and the show’s other co-executive producers, Nathan Lieberman and Latin Grammy Award-winning singer, Jorge Moreno. Afterwards, Humphries bowled through the restaurant, trampling over fans approaching for photos, and ran across Collins Avenue, avoiding more paparazzi. Humphries refused to take photos with The Catalina cast members when asked.
The Catalina, is a new reality series from Warner Horizon Television and Beach Pictures premiering on The CW on Tuesday, May 29th (8pm/7c). Set against the sun-soaked sands of Miami Beach, the show follows the young, testosterone-charged staff of The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club located in the epicenter of South Beach. The entire cast of The Catalina will be making their first ever ‘post-production’ public appearance at the hotel on Collins Avenue for the show’s red carpet Premiere Party on Tuesday, May 22nd, starting at 8:00pm, at which a number of surprise celebrity guests are expected to attend the raucous celebration.
The sizzling summer series is the first ever reality show set in a South Beach hotel and features ten of its fun-loving staff members, each with different positions at the hotel and with ages ranging from early twenties to mid-thirty year-old managers, each representing the melting pot of cultural and ethnic diversity that only Miami Beach can offer. The cast, made up of exotic Latinos, middle-eastern delights as well as suave native Americans of home-grown talent, never fail to reveal their well-groomed looks and embellishments among colleagues, hotel guests and neighborhood beach-goers alike.
“The Catalina will show a true representation of young adulthood in South Beach, from those who have not only lived and worked here for most of their lives, but from some who were actually born and raised here,” says cast member Nathan Lieberman, executive producer and owner of The Catalina Hotel, who co-created the reality series. “The individual backgrounds and diverse cultures that each of the characters embody is what makes the show so unique and unlike anything we have seen. This assortment of ethnicity, together with everyone’s openness and laid-back (but sometimes steamy) personalities, is what makes our relationships on and off the screen so ‘caliente!’ Viewers will experience a wild but exciting ride within the infamous Catalina Hotel – known all over the country for its non-stop and continuous debauchery!”
The show will follow the group as they manage their relationships with each other, while working hard to create a fun, exciting experience for the guests at the hotel. When the group works and parties together, drama always ensues. The two pool bartenders, Nancy and Kris, used to date and still have to work together, which causes jealousy when Kris flirts with fellow staff and hotel guests. Bartender, David, does his best to fit in with his fellow co-workers, while pool cocktail server, DeDe, often serves as the voice of reason with the group. Forming their own dysfunctional family unit, the fun-loving group works hard during the day, while at night, they party even harder than their guests.
Kung Fu, the hotel’s popular Asian restaurant, is always bustling and restaurant general manager, Morgan, is all business as she tries to keep things flowing. Luckily, she has her best friend, Eyal, who serves as the restaurant bartender, to keep her sane in times of stress. The front desk team consists of Vicky and Karina, best friends who love to stay after work and party at the hotel where trouble inevitably follows. Meanwhile, hotel owner, Nathan, and general manager, Stephanie, work to maintain order and keep the guests happy. All of this is just a day’s work for the employees of The Catalina.
The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is part of the esteemed South Beach Group, founded by real estate developer and hotelier, Alan Lieberman, in 1998. The hotel acts as the flagship property for the organization that owns more than ten popular boutique hotel destinations and resorts in Miami Beach, including Hotel Chelsea, Chesterfield Hotel & Suites and the newly opened Riviera Hotel & Suites, among others. The South Beach Group is not unaccustomed to hosting nationally televised reality shows after the cast and crew of Jersey Shore took over The Metropole South Beach hotel for the entire filming of season two.
