Kimpton Surfcomber Partners with Overtown Youth Center To Give Back Through The Arts

Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel invited students from Overtown Youth Center for a day of fun, education, and food. Middle and high school students engaged with local artist, Santlov as he presented his iconic “ToysRLikeUs” exhibition on display at the Miami Beach hotel and General Manager, Mohan Koka showed them what it takes to succeed in the hospitality industry.

Students were greeted by Director of Sales and Marketing, Sharee Awaal, when they arrived and were given a personal tour by Santlov. The day was spent learning about the art industry through Santlov’s eyes and understanding vast opportunities in the hospitality industry from Mohan Koka. They enjoyed food by Hightide while conversing with Mohan. Sharee and Santlov about their goals and aspirations after graduating high school.

Kimpton Surfcomber’s mission with the event was to inspire and empower Overtown Youth Center’s youth for tomorrow and beyond. The dedicated hotel staff and passionate artist were excited to introduce the group of students to the arts and hospitality industry.

Plans are underway to continue developing Kimpton Surfcomber’s partnership with Overtown Youth Center for a Summer Program in 2019. The Summer Program will provide one lucky high-schooler the opportunity to shadow hotel department heads and experience the hospitality industry first-hand.
